What. A. Year!

2023 was a year to remember. HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology celebrated its 15-year anniversary. The Educational Outreach team was busy throughout the year, educating more than 3,000 students, teachers and community members alike over through more than 100 different in-person experiences. Let's break down those numbers!

2,300 students

2,300 students participated in student experiences with HudsonAlpha Educational Outreach. Those include field trips, summer camps, and after-school experiences.

100+ student experiences

Those students had more than 100 different experiences in our Educational Outreach program. We hosted 74 field trips, 6 different summer camps multiple times and one of our newest experiences, "Exploring Modern Biotechnology."

66 Biotrain Interns

The HudsonAlpha Biotrain internship program is alive and well, as more than 60 undergrads from throughout Alabama joined us for an 8-week immersive internship experience in different areas of study, including research, communications, business development, economic development and more. 475+ teachers

More than 475 teachers participated in more than 20 teacher education and training sessions our team hosted throughout the year. We traveled across the state bringing education kits and news ways to approach teaching about genetics.

500+ HudsonAlpha U participants

We kicked off our HudsonAlpha U education program. The program invites the public to learn about the latest in genomics from the Vice President of Educational Outreach, Kelly East, GC. More than 500 community members participated in our three events in Huntsville and two events in Dothan!
